| 1. A coupler for coupling laser light having a divergent beam into an optical fiber,
the coupler comprising,
a transmissive element having transmissive gratings for refracting the divergent beam into injected light through the side
of the optical fiber and into the optical fiber,
an optical fiber portion for the optical fiber, and the injected light passing through the optical fiber portion, the optical
fiber portion comprising an inner cladding, and
a reflective element having reflective gratings for reflecting the injected light along the optical fiber, the transmissive
element and the reflective element are made of a thin film and disposed upon and made integral with the inner cladding of
the optical fiber portion.
