1. A method comprising:
(a) operating an automated banking machine to receive a check, wherein the automated banking machine includes at least one cash dispenser;
(b) operating the automated banking machine to receive at least one input from a machine user, wherein the at least one input includes at least one input amount value associated with a value of the check, wherein the at least one input amount value comprises characters corresponding to dollars and cents;
(c) operating the automated banking machine to generate image data corresponding to an image of at least a portion of at least one side of the check, wherein the image data includes at least one image value;
(d) operating the automated banking machine to determine whether the at least one input amount value corresponds to the at least one image value, including determining whether the characters corresponding to dollars and cents are represented in the image data with at least one threshold level of confidence;
(e) responsive to determining in step (d) that the at least one input amount value corresponds to the at least one image value, operating the automated banking machine to cause the machine user to be credited the at least one input amount value;
(f) operating the automated banking machine to cause the image data to be changed to include at least one of:
(i) data corresponding to a time,
(ii) data corresponding to the automated banking machine,
(iii) data corresponding to the machine user, and
(iv) data corresponding to an authenticity feature; and
(g) operating the automated banking machine to cause at least a portion of the image data changed in step (f) to be sent to a remote computer.
