1. A system comprising a sensing device and a surface having coded data disposed thereon, the system being arranged for determining at least two dimensions of the rotational orientation of the sensing device relative to the surface, wherein:
the coded data is indicative, when sensed by the sensing device, of the at least two dimensions of the rotational orientation of the sensing device; and
the sensing device includes:
an orientation sensor configured to generate, when positioned or moved relative to the surface, using at least some of the coded data, orientation data indicative of the at least two dimensions of the orientation of the sensing device relative to the surface; and
a transmitter for transmitting the orientation data to a computer system.
