| 1. A method of melting aluminum comprising:
a) introducing a aluminum charge into a furnace with at least one burner;
b) melting said aluminum to form an aluminum melt pool;
c) detecting the variations in the carbon monoxide (CO) concentration and the temperature in the flue gases;
d) deducing the formation of aluminum oxides on the surface of said aluminum melt pool from said variations in carbon monoxide
(CO) concentration and flue gas temperature; and
e) regulating said melting process depending on said formation of said aluminum oxides.
