1. A laser drilling system for pellet-shaped articles comprising:
a laser; and
a controller operable in first and second modes to allow the laser to create at least one laser drilled hole in the articles having a diameter spanning a range from about 50 micrometers to about 1 mm in the first mode for a relatively smaller hole, and a diameter spanning a range from about 1 mm to about 6 mm in the second mode for a relatively larger hole, wherein a series of smaller holes are combined by pulsing them in adjacent positions to form the relatively larger hole.
