1. A method of preparing halohydrins comprising exposing (R1CHXCH2O—)2SO2 to R2COOH to produce R2COOCH2CHXR1 and hydrolyzing the R2COOCH2CHXR1 to produce R1CHXCH2OH, R1 and R2 being a single element or an organic group, wherein R1 and R2 are the same or different and X is a halogen.
