| 1. A method for characterizing acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) in a patient with AML, comprising assaying for overexpression
of one or more BAALC transcripts in cells obtained from the patient,
wherein the BAALC transcripts are selected from the group consisting of transcripts identified as 1-8, 1-6-8, 1-5-6-8, 1-4-5-6-8,
1-5-6-7-8, 1-2-6-8, 1-2-5-6-8, and 1-2-3-6-8; and
wherein overexpression of one or more of the BAALC transcripts in cells of the patient indicates that the patient has an aggressive
form of AML.
