| 1. A polarization mode dispersion (PMD) mitigation apparatus comprising:
a PMD mitigation device optically coupled to receive an optical input signal comprising a clock frequency (fc) and a polarization mode scrambler frequency f on an optical input line and output an optical output signal on an optical
output line;
an optical detector optically coupled to the optical output line, where the optical detector is operable to receive a portion
of the optical output signal having the clock frequency (fc) and the polarization mode scrambler frequency f and to convert the optical output signal into an electrical signal;
a radio-frequency (RF) bandpass filter electrically coupled to the optical detector, where the RF bandpass filter is operable
to filter the electrical signal and is tuned to a frequency and bandwidth 2f selected from the group consisting of: fc±f and fc/2±f; and
an RF detector electrically coupled to the RF bandpass filter, where the RF detector is operable to measure an intensity of
the filtered electrical signal.
