1. A method for correcting motion artifacts within a volumetric data set, comprising:
obtaining a volumetric data set containing spatial and temporal information regarding an object, said volumetric data set being organized into data slices, at least two adjacent said data slices being representative of a common object at different points in time;
determine relative motion between adjacent first and second data slices in said volumetric data set;
correcting said relative motion between said adjacent first and second slices; and
determining a cumulative motion of said first and second data slices with respect to a reference coordinate system of said volumetric data set.
