1. A method comprising:
receiving, by a first user equipment (UE), a radio resource control (RRC) signal from a communications controller, the RRC signal indicating a first resource for communicating a device-to-device (D2D) signal between the first UE and a second UE;
receiving, by the first UE, a downlink control information (DCI) message from the communications controller, the DCI message scheduling an uplink transmission of the UE over the first resource or a second resource that overlaps with the first resource in the time domain;
determining either that the uplink transmission is prioritized over the D2D signal or that a priority of D2D signal fails to satisfy a criteria; and based thereon
transmitting, by the UE, the uplink transmission over the first resource or the second resource without transmitting or receiving the D2D signal over the first resource.
