1. A data storage device, comprising:
a memory die comprising non-volatile memory (NVM) storage elements and a latch comprising a volatile memory component of the memory die; and
a controller coupled to the memory die and configured to:
determine whether to make the latch of the memory die available for use as volatile memory by a host processing device;
notify the host processing device, in response to a determination to make the latch available, that memory within the latch is available for use as volatile memory by the host processing device;
receive a volatile memory write command from the host processing device that comprises data and an address corresponding to a storage location in the latch; and
store the data at the storage location in the latch in response to the volatile memory write command received from the host processing device.
