1. An algae-based thermoplastic composition comprising:
(a) a protein-rich algae biomass selected from either microalgae, macroalgae or combinations thereof, wherein the protein content is greater than or equal to 15% by weight of the algae biomass and the algae biomass is dried to a moisture content of less than or equal to 15% by weight and having a particle d99 of up to 200 microns, wherein the dried algae biomass is at least 5% by weight of the thermoplastic composition; and
(b) a resin including a biodegradable polymer or a member selected from the group consisting of polyesters, polyolefins, thermoplastic elastomers, styrenics, polyamides, polyethers, polyvinyl chlorides (PVC), thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU), polybutylene adipate-co-terephthalate (PBAT), polyethylene (PE), ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), and combinations thereof.
