1. An external defibrillator comprising:
a controller;
an electrical energy storage source operatively connected to the controller; and
a temporary electrical storage device in electrical connection with the electrical energy storage source and configured to deliver a defibrillating shock to a patient;
wherein the controller is programmed to:
detect delivery of chest compressions of a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) interval;
perform charging of the temporary electrical storage device from the electrical energy storage source during delivery of the chest compressions of the CPR interval;
determine an absence of the delivery of the chest compressions of the CPR interval;
analyze one or more electrocardiogram (ECG) signals from the patient in the absence of the delivery of the chest compressions the CPR interval; and
control the temporary electrical storage device to provide a defibrillating shock to the patient when the analysis of the one or more ECG signals from the patient in the absence of the delivery of the chest compressions of the CPR interval determines that a shockable rhythm is present.
