1. A knife sharpener system, comprising:
a housing configured to receive a knife blade at a proximal end thereof, the housing including a carriage assembly movably mounted thereto, the camage assembly being configured to travel along a guide track;
a sharpening element coupled to the carriage assembly and configured to sharpen a cutting edge of the knife blade, the sharpening element being movable relative to the housing along a first track to move along and against the cutting edge of the knife blade disposed in the housing, the first track being separate from the guide track; and
an access door pivotally coupled to a distal end of the housing and configured to block a cam path extending from the first track when the access door is in a closed position, the access door being configured to allow access to the sharpening element to allow removal of at least a portion of the sharpening element,
wherein the cam path is unblocked when the access door is in an open position.
