1. A method of transmitting data in a wireless communication system from a transmitting side to a receiving side, the method comprising:
receiving first-direction link vocoder rate information from the receiving side through a second-direction link channel;
encoding input voice signals at a first-direction link vocoder rate to output voice data, the first-direction link vocoder rate determined based on the received first-direction link vocoder rate information;
generating second-direction link vocoder rate information by measuring at least one channel quality metric of the second-direction link channel;
channel encoding the voice data by a convolutional encoder; and
transmitting the channel encoded voice data, rate bits indicating the first-direction link vocoder rate presently applied in encoding the channel encoded voice data and the second-direction link vocoder rate information to the receiving side through a first-direction link channel, wherein the rate bits are transmitted through a data frame.
