at a first mobile communication device:
receiving notification of a wireless channel scheduled for shared use amongst multiple mobile communication devices including the first mobile communication device and a second mobile communication device;
detecting use of a first time slot of the wireless channel, the first time slot acquired by the second mobile communication device via a first listen before talk function implemented by the second mobile communication device; and
monitoring, via a second listen before talk function, for non-use of a second time slot of the wireless channel to acquire use of the second time slot amongst the multiple mobile communication devices;
the method further comprising, via the first mobile communication device:
acquiring use of the second timeslot via implementation of the second listen before talk function and a respective back-off interval associated with the second listen before talk function; and
based on the acquired use of the second timeslot via the respective back-off interval associated with the second listen before talk function: wirelessly transmitting in the second timeslot; and wirelessly transmitting in a third timeslot of the wireless channel without implementing a listen before talk function in the third timeslot, the third timeslot following the second timeslot.
