| 1. A method for treating colon cancer, which comprises orally administering to a mammal, in need of treatment an effective
amount of 5,6-dimethylxanthenone-4-acetic acid (DMXAA) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof;
wherein:
(i) DMXAA, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof, is administered in two or more discrete doses, separated
by a time interval;
(ii) the first dose is greater than 50% of a maximum tolerated dose;
(iii) the first dose is greater than 1.5 times the magnitude of one or more subsequent doses; and
(iv) said time interval is in a range of 1 to 6 hours, and
wherein the maximum tolerated dose of DMXAA is 5300 mg/m2.
