1. An automatic transmission comprising:
a transmission case;
a first shaft housed in, and rotationally supported by, said transmission case, and capable of receiving torque from an engine;
first and second planetary gear sets arranged coaxially on said first shaft, each having a single sun gear that is fixed to said transmission case and a single ring gear that rotates together with said first shaft;
a gear mechanism arranged coaxially on said first shaft capable of receiving torque selectively through said first or second planetary gear set;
an output gear arranged coaxially on said first shaft between said first planetary gear set and said gear mechanism and capable of outputting torque from said gear mechanism; and
a support wall provided inside of said transmission case, said support wall dividing said inside of said transmission case into a front chamber of a power input side to said first shaft and a rear chamber of its opposite side in the axial direction of said first shaft;
wherein said output gear is rotationally supported by said support wall; and
wherein said first planetary gear set is housed in said front chamber, while said gear mechanism and said second planetary gear set are housed in said rear chamber.
