| 1. A method for determining a characteristic of a subsurface formation traversed by a wellbore, comprising:
establishing a rate of fluid flow corresponding to each stratum of a plurality of strata in a formation;
generating fluid data from the fluid flow corresponding to each stratum;
altering the rate of fluid flow in the wellbore;
generating fluid data associated with the altered fluid flow rate; and
processing the fluid data to determine at least one characteristic of each stratum in the plurality of strata.
