| 1. A system that receives and provides for display interlaced and progressive format input video, wherein the transmission
is done in progressive format, and the displayed video has no perceptible loss of vertical and temporal resolution, said system
further comprising:
an input end for receiving input video from an encoding end, wherein the encoding end converts the input video in interlaced
format to progressive format with at least a first element, vertically scales down the input video in progressive format with
at least a second element, and compresses the vertically scaled down input video with at least a third element;
a decompressor for decompressing the input video;
a vertical rate converter for sample rate converting the input video; and
an interlacer for selectively interlacing the input video; and
wherein progressive video is output if interlacing is not selected.
