1. A device for sensing the speed of a rotating transmission input shaft positioned within an associated torque converter stator shaft, the device comprising:
a plurality of markers circumferentially spaced about the input shaft; and
a sensor, configured to sense the markers, positioned in close proximity to the circumferential markers through a hole in the torque converter stator shaft, wherein the torque converter stator shaft includes an axial body with a radial flange extending therefrom, and wherein an axial groove extends along the axial body between the hole in the torque converter stator shaft and the radial flange.
