1. A hyperbranched polymer comprising polymer units derived from (a) maleic anhydride and (b) at least one terminally-unsaturated, acyclic aliphatic diene having at least 7 carbon atoms; wherein said polymer has at least one pendent olefinic group for each 10 polymer units, wherein the polymer has a Mark-Houwink coefficient α is in the range of 0 <α<0.5 and the polymer has a coefficient B in the range of ⅓<B <0.5, the maleic anhydride and the diene are in the polymer backbone and wherein the diene is selected from the group consisting of 1,7-octadiene, 1,9-decadiene, 1,11-dodecadiene, 1,13-tetradecadiene and mixtures of two or more thereof.
