1. A stain resist composition comprising (1) a hyperbranched polymer comprising polymer units derived from (a) maleic anhydride and (b) at least one terminally-unsaturated, acyclic aliphatic diene having at least 7 carbon atoms; wherein said polymer has at least one pendent olefinic group for each 10 polymer units and (2) water, an organic solvent, or a mixture of water and an organic solvent and further wherein the maleic anhydride and the diene are in the polymer backbone and the at least one diene is selected from the group consisting of 1,7-octadiene, 1,9-decadiene, 1,11-dodecadiene, 1,13-tetradecadiene and mixtures of two or more thereof.
