1. A method of preparing carbide nanorods comprising the steps of:
impregnating aggregates of carbon nanotubes with an ethanol solution containing MoO2(C5H7O2)2;
drying said impregnated aggregates of carbon nanotubes at 110° C. under vacuum to form molybdenum carbide precursors;
calcining said molybdenum carbide precursors at 600° C. to form carbide nanorods;
cooling said carbide nanorods in Ar at room temperature; and
passivating said carbide nanorods with 3% O2/Ar.
