AS A RESULT OF REEXAMINATION, IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT:

[1. A method to energize a triggerable flash lamp to produce a high energy light pulse, the method comprising the steps of:
(a) collecting and storing energy for delivery to the flash lamp when triggered;
(b) triggering the flash lamp; and
(c) delivering the collected and stored energy to the flash lamp in the form of a flattened and extended current pulse coupled to an energy input coupling of the flash lamp, energizing the flash lamp and thereby producing the high energy light pulse.]
