1. A method for communication in a wireless network, comprising;
establishing an infrastructure channel between a first wireless station and a wireless access point connected to a network;
establishing a direct link channel between the first wireless station and a second wireless station without action by the access point, wherein the infrastructure channel and the direct link channel are in operation concurrently and have a common basic service set and a common basic service set ID;
the first wireless station selecting a channel from the direct link channel and the infrastructure channel in the absence of central control; and
communicating on the selected channel.
