| 1. A compound magnetic recording head for pre-erasing magnetic tape, the magnetic recording head comprising:
a first substrate comprising a magnetically permeable thin film layer comprising a servo write gap pattern for writing a servo
pattern in a servo track of a magnetic media;
a second substrate spaced apart a predetermined distance from the first substrate and comprising a magnetically permeable
thin film layer comprising an erase gap pattern for pre-erasing the servo track, the erase gap pattern being at least as wide
as substantially the width of the servo write gap pattern; and
wherein the servo write gap pattern of the first substrate and the erase gap pattern of the second substrate are lithographically
printed using a single mask.
