| 1. A method of producing a transgenic plant or plant cell having resistance to nematode diseases, the method comprising:
introducing into the plant or plant cell a vector comprising an isolated nucleic acid encoding dsRNA comprising at least 21
contiguous nucleotides of SEQ ID NO:1 or 2 or the complement thereof, wherein the dsRNA is in an amount effective to inhibit
or prevent expression of nematode esophageal gland cell secretory polypeptide by a parasitic nematode feeding on the transgenic
plant or plant cell as compared to a control plant or plant cell, and wherein the transgenic plant or plant cell is resistant
to nematode diseases caused by at least two different species of root-knot nematode.
