1. A robotic catheter system comprising:
a cassette including a housing having a front end, a rear end, a sidewall, a first channel, and a second channel,
a motor drive base comprising a first drive motor and a second drive motor located in the motor drive base;
a first axial drive mechanism including a first pair of engagement surfaces, located within the first channel, arranged to impart axial movement to a guide wire extending along the first channel, through the rear end of the housing and through the front end of the housing, and
a second axial drive mechanism including a second pair of engagement surfaces located within the second channel arranged to impart axial movement to a catheter device extending along the second channel;
the second axial drive mechanism being located at an angle relative to the first axial drive mechanism;
one of the first pair of engagement surfaces being coupled to a first motor in the motor drive base and one of the second pair of engagement surfaces being coupled to a second motor in the motor drive base;
the cassette, being removably supported by the motor drive base.
