1. A method for producing 2-hydroxy 2-(indol-3-ylmethyl)-4-keto glutaric acid comprising
contacting indole-3-pyruvate with a polypeptide chosen from KHG aldolase (4-hydroxy-2-oxoglutarate glyoxylate-lyase, EC 4.1.3.16) and ProA aldolase (4-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-oxoglutarate pyruvate-lyase, EC 4.1.3.17) under conditions in which 2-hydroxy 2-(indol-3-ylmethyl)-4-keto glutaric acid is produced.
