1. A method for use in an imaging device for capturing an image of a high-dynamic range subject, the method including:
displaying a preview of the subject to be captured in a display of the device;
displaying a selection of a plurality of graduated filter configurations available for use when capturing the image of the subject;
receiving a user input indicating a selected graduated filter configuration from among the plurality of configurations available, wherein the filter configuration includes a filter orientation;
capturing multiple images of the subject by the device, each image comprising a plurality of pixel values, and each image comprising highlights and shadows;
determining one or more scaling factors to be applied to pixel values of the multiple images to form parts of a final image based, at least in part, on the selected graduated filter configuration;
combining the multiple images to form a final image, wherein the combining includes applying the scaling factors to the pixel values being combined to form parts of the final image such that the scaling factors cause pixel values of the final image to remain within a dynamic range that avoids saturation;
displaying the final image in the display of the device; and
storing the final image.
