1. An edge-based communication system, comprising:
a multi-access edge computing (MEC) server deployed in a wireless local communication network for providing a MEC service in an edge site that corresponds to a service area of the wireless local communication network, wherein the wireless local communication network includes at least one of (a) a radio access network (RAN) in a cellular communication system, (b) a core network (CN) in the cellular communication system, and (c) a wireless local area network (WLAN) defined in IEEE 802.11 standards;
an Internet server accessible over the Internet for providing an Internet service in connection with the MEC service;
MEC server software hosted on the MEC server, including computer program instructions that cause the MEC server to perform the MEC service, wherein the MEC service comprises locally communicating local digital data with one or more client devices only when the one or more client devices are in the edge site by being connected to the wireless local communication network, wherein the local communication of the local digital data is performed without access to the Internet beyond the wireless local communication network for low latency; and
Internet server software hosted on the Internet server, including computer program instructions that cause the Internet server to perform the Internet service in connection with the MEC service, wherein the Internet service comprises at least one of the following (a), (b), (c), and (d):
(a) a first Internet service that comprises communicating first digital data associated with the local digital data with the one or more client devices over the Internet in preparation to the local communication of the local digital data;
(b) a second Internet service that comprises communicating second digital data associated with the local digital data with the one or more client devices over the Internet as a backup alternative to the local communication of the local digital data in case the local communication of the local digital data is unavailable;
(c) a third Internet service that comprises communicating third digital data associated with the local digital data with the MEC server over the Internet in preparation to the local communication of the local digital data; and
(d) a fourth Internet service that comprises communicating fourth digital data associated with the local digital data with the MEC server over the Internet as a result of the local communication of the local digital data.
