1. An authentication device comprising:
a memory configured to store instructions;
a storage configured to store a plurality of reliability scores of right eyes and left eyes pertaining to each of a plurality of registrants, the plurality of registrants being objects to be authenticated; and
at least one processor configured to execute the instructions to:
acquire a first image by capturing at least a face of an object of authentication;
acquire a second image by capturing a first eye of the object of authentication;
determine whether the first eye included in the second image is a left eye or a right eye of the object of authentication using the first image;
output a request to the object of authentication to capture another second image in order to acquire, as the another second image, an image including a second eye of the object of authentication different than the first eye, when the reliability score of the first eye included in the second image is lower than the reliability score of the second eye, the reliability score of the first eye representing an ease of identification between the first eye of the object of authentication and corresponding first eyes of others, and the reliability score of the second eye representing the ease of identification between the second eye of the object of authentication and corresponding second eyes of the others;
specify the object of authentication based on a verification score, the verification score being calculated by comparing characteristic information of an iris of the first eye in the second image or of the second eye in the another second image with one or more sets of characteristic information calculated from irises of the corresponding first eyes or the corresponding second eyes of the others stored in the storage;
calculate a weighted verification score by weighting the verification score with the reliability score of the first eye stored in the storage with respect to the specified object of authentication when the reliability score of the first eye is higher than the reliability score of the second eye, and with the reliability score of the second eye stored in the storage with respect to the specified object of authentication when the reliability score of the second eye is higher than the reliability score of the first eye;
authenticate the object of authentication captured in the first image and the second image or the another second image based on the weighted verification score; and
output an authentication result.
