| 1. A process for the direct synthesis of methylchlorosilanes by reaction of chloromethane in a reactor with a contact composition
comprising silicon and copper catalyst,
wherein the concentration of oxygen in the chloromethane is reduced by mixing
a) chloromethane which contains oxygen, with
b) chloromethane which contains a gaseous boron compound, wherein said mixing takes place prior to addition of a) and b) into the reactor.
