| 1. An apparatus for gain control in a communication system, the apparatus comprising:
means for receiving at least one aggregate, upstream communications signal, the at least one aggregate, upstream communications
signal comprising a summation of distributed communications signals;
means for detecting at least a sample of a signal level of the at least one aggregate, upstream communications signal; and
means for attenuating the signal level of the at least one aggregate, upstream communications signal based on the signal level
sample.
