1. A method of evaluating the performance of a control system, the method comprising:
acquiring an error signal associated with the control system;
calculating a measure of symmetry of a half-cycle of the error signal;
comparing the measure of symmetry with a predetermined value;
determining a cause of an oscillation in the control system based on the comparison; and
completing at least one of displaying the determined cause of the oscillation on an electronic display and storing the determined cause of the oscillation in a memory device.
