| 1. A navigation system for guiding a user to a destination, comprising:
a map data storage for storing XML (extensible markup language) and/or SVG (scalable vector graphics) format map data converted
from geographic data available in the market;
a controller for controlling an overall operation of determining types of requested data for the navigation system either
text data or image data and retrieves XML format map data when the requested data is text data and retrieves SVG format map
data when the requested data is image data; and
a display controlled by the controller for interfacing with the user and displaying the text data and/or image data;
wherein the XML/SVG format map data is constructed in a layered structure based on administrative regions each being a unit
of country, state, county, or city.
