1. A method of producing mixed illumination in a high resolution system, the method comprising:
focusing a light source onto an annular entrance slit of a condenser;
adjusting the system vertically to find a focus spot on the sample, the illumination system including a beam of light, a collimating lens, a mirror and a condenser; and
opening an iris physically coupled to the objective so as to allow the direct entrance of light into the objective, wherein the illumination system generates diffraction fringes.
