1. A hydroxyethylstarch-protein conjugate, characterized in that the binding interaction between the hydroxyethylstarch molecule and the protein is a single covalent bonding which is the result of a coupling reaction between (i) the terminal aldehyde group of the hydroxyethylstarch molecule and (ii) a primary amino group of the protein to form a Schiff's base.
