| 1. A fluorescence detector comprising:
a light source for emitting radiation on at least one fluorescing species;
a charge integrating circuit;
a charge disposal device;
a photodetector to detect fluorescent radiation from the at least one fluorescing species and being switchable between said
charge integrating circuit and said charge disposal device; and
a controller cooperating with said light source and said photodetector to cyclically activate said light source for a first
period of time and switch said photodetector to said charge disposal device for the first period of time, and to deactivate
said light source and switch said photodetector to the charge integrating circuit for a second period of time after the first
period of time;
said controller not resetting said charge integrating circuit from at least one cycle to the next.
