1. A method for inhibiting angiogenesis in a mammal, comprising administering to the mammal in need thereof an angiogenesis inhibiting amount of a polypeptide comprising an extracellular portion of a D1-1 polypeptide having:
a) an amino acid sequence that is at least 95% identical to SEQ ID NO: 11; or,
b) an amino acid sequence encoded by a nucleic acid sequence that is at least 99% identical to SEQ ID NO: 8
wherein the polypeptide has angiogenesis inhibitory activity.
