| 1. A method for producing a thermal barrier coating on a metallic substrate comprising:
applying over the metallic substrate a thermal barrier coating consisting of a compound consisting of an intended rhombohedral
phase, wherein the compound has the formula of: A4B3O12, and wherein A is at least one rare earth element; B is Hf, Zr or a mixture thereof.
