1. A tape printing apparatus for printing a print image onto a tape of at least one type having a particular non-printing area corresponding to the type of the tape, the apparatus comprising:
basic image storage means for storing basic image data serving as a source of print image data;
non-printing area information storage means for storing non-printing area information indicating the non-printing area corresponding to the type of the tape;
tape type setting means for setting the type information of the tape that is loaded;
print image producing means for producing the print image data with the basic image data masked based on the non-printing area information corresponding to the type information of the loaded tape; and
detecting means for detecting whether a fold line is formed in the non-printing area of the tape.
