1. A method of producing a label on a markable medium, comprising:
forming optically visible marks in a relatively dark radiation-sensitive coating disposed on the markable medium by exposing first portions of the radiation-sensitive coating to first electromagnetic radiation having a first wavelength to form the marks while the markable medium is positioned in a marking device; and
bleaching second portions of the radiation-sensitive coating not exposed to the first electromagnetic radiation using second electromagnetic radiation having a second wavelength by exposing the second portions of the radiation-sensitive coating not exposed to the first electromagnetic radiation to the second electromagnetic radiation while the markable medium is positioned in the marking device so as to produce a relatively lighter background in the second portions of the radiation-sensitive coating;
wherein the first wavelength and second wavelength are different; and
wherein bleaching the second portions of the coating enables material located beneath the coating to be optically visible at the second portions.
