| 1. A method for manufacturing a high pressure discharge lamp that includes: a light emitting part which is formed from glass,
a pair of electrodes provided in an internal space of the light emitting part, and a light emitting material enclosed in the
internal space of the light emitting part; and sealing parts which keep the internal space of the light emitting part airtight
by sealing therein a pair of feeders, which are connected to the pair of electrodes, respectively, the method comprising:
sealing the pair of feeders in the sealing parts, respectively, the sealing parts each comprising a second member interposed
between a first member and a feeder so as to surround at least one portion of the feeder; and
applying an electric field from outside the light emitting part to the light emitting part, while keeping the light emitting
part at no lower than a temperature that is required for impurities existing in the internal space of the light emitting part
to ionize, so as to cause the impurities to diffuse into the glass which forms the light emitting part, wherein the electric
field has a strength of 10 kV/m or more.
