1. A method comprising:
measuring a parameter of an ac waveform applied to an electrical line;
computing a line impedance based upon the parameter;
computing a bolted fault current based on the line impedance;
measuring a first voltage of the ac waveform applied to the electrical line;
draining current from the line and measuring a second voltage of the ac waveform during a droop in voltage resulting from the current drain; and
removing the current drain to cause a resonant ring in the voltage in the line,
wherein the parameter of the ac waveform is a frequency of the resonant ring.
