1. A method for preventing data loss in a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) system, comprising the steps of:
determining, during an outgoing call on a VoIP line, whether a level of signal loss or error caused by incoming ringing on a plain old telephone system (POTS) line associated with the VoIP line is unacceptable based on a predetermined threshold; and
in response to determining that the level of signal loss is unacceptable, initiating a signal loss prevention process to prevent subsequent incoming ringing on the POTS line during VoIP calls.
