| 1. An inkjet printing apparatus for performing printing on a printing medium using a printhead having a plurality of discharge
orifices for discharging ink, comprising:
obtaining means for obtaining an elapsed time until a discharge failure occurs in any one of the plurality of discharge orifices;
and
control means for controlling execution of a preliminary discharge by the printhead, said control means controlling a time
interval of the preliminary discharge executed by the printhead based on the elapsed time obtained by said obtaining means.
