A composition for analyzing metalloproteases, the composition comprising a chemical compound including a hydroxamate moiety and a benzophenone moiety, wherein the compound further includes at least one additional functional moiety selected from the group consisting of rhodamine, oligonucleotides, azides, alkynes, and p-nitrophenyl.
