| 1. A method of treating or suppressing cancers comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a pharmaceutical composition
comprising a protein, wherein said protein:
(a) consists of an α-chain fragment of HGF;
(b) has a molecular weight of about 55-69 kDa;
(c) has antagonist activity against c-Met/HGF receptor; and
(d) is a fragment of elastase digestion of HGF.
